Error "Windows cannot verify the digital signature for this file."

Veröffentlicht · aktualisiert

The digital signature of the Installer did not verify due to SHA* not compatible or the file is probably Corrupt.

*SHA\: Secure Hash Algorithm, in simple words, is a security algorithm that Windows uses to allow loading drivers that have been signed by Microsoft.**

This error seemed to happen whenever you attempt to install drivers that are not officially signed by Microsoft. The operating system will reject the installation as the application doesn't match the security algorithm that Windows has.

To Troubleshoot this.

OPTION 1:

Re-install Hotspot Shield.

Provide with the official download link of Hotspot Shield for Windows and suggest the user to try again.

OPTION 2:

Disable Driver Signature verification (Windows 10 or 8 process)

  • Hold down the Shift key while you click the “Restart” option in Windows. Your computer will restart into the menu.

  • Select the “Troubleshoot” tile on the Choose an option screen that appears.

  • Select “Advanced options”.

  • Click the “Startup Settings” tile.

  • Click the “Restart” button to restart your PC into the Startup Settings screen.

  • Type “7” or “F7” at the Startup Settings screen to activate the “Disable driver signature enforcement” option.

Your PC will boot with driver signature enforcement disabled and you’ll be able to install unsigned drivers. However, the next time you restart your computer, driver signature enforcement will be disabled—unless you go through this menu again. You’re now free to install drivers that haven’t been officially signed by Microsoft.

NOTE: This error is out of the scope of our support, however, you can explain this to any user as going the extra mile. Reinforce with the user that every change made on the Windows system will be his/her choice.
