Hotspot Shield add-on for new Microsoft Edge
Published · updated
With the release of the new Microsoft Edge, we released an Add-on to work with it, here are a few details to consider.
After we downloaded this version to check it out, it seems both platforms (Edge and Chrome) share the same UI since the new Edge has been based on Google Chrome.
In the Admin tool, we would be able to see that Model says Edge, the current version is 5.0.0.
This version works exactly like the Google Chrome version. This is the download link: https://microsoftedge.microsoft.com/addons/detail/hotspot-shield-free-vpn-p/cdbkakmeogejmlpgioplhjkaablahbmj
When installed, we get a grey shield icon that will turn blue when the app is connected
When we first open the app after installing we are received with a brief tutorial on how to use this version, at the end of the tutorial, customers must click on "Done" in the bottom right corner to get to the app interface.
This version has two menus.
Settings Menu (Top Left) Options: To sign in > App Settings > Help
Configuration Menu (Top Rigth) Options: Select connection mode > Select Server
To add auto-connect on certain websites or bypass websites, customers must click on the "Open in Edge" option.
These are the servers on Premium, (Free users are limited to US server)
For troubleshooting, we can advise the user to reinstall the app providing the link above.
For access troubleshooting we can provide these steps:
On Microsoft Edge open the three-dots menu on the top-right corner and then select Settings and more > Settings > Privacy and services.
Under Clear browsing data, select Choose what to clear.
Under Time range, choose a time range.
Select Cookies and other site data, and then select Clear now.
This version can be recommended as a workaround for access issues.
After browsing a while it seems that the app works just as fine as the Google Chrome extension.
